Stamco awarded Number 2 Recoil (Tension Level) Line contract for Wuhan Iron and Steel Stamco, a subsidiary of Genesis Worldwide II Inc. announced that it has signed a Contract with Wuhan Iron and Steel Company (WISCO), in the Hubei Province of China, for their Number 2 Recoil (Tension Level) Line. The line will process high-grade steel strip for automotive body panels, appliance and furniture industries. The line receives steel coils of up to 3 mm (.120") Thick x 1575 mm (62") Wide x 2500 mm (100") O.D. with weights up to 45 metric tons (100,000 lbs.) from the cold rolling mills and produces product, free of internal stresses and defects, at high speed. The line has an annual production rate of 220,000 metric tons per year at speeds up to 300 mpm (984 fpm). Stamco's advanced tension leveling system is self-regulating and requires no operator adjustment or intervention to produce top quality finished products that are free of residual stresses and shape defects. The drive system utilizes the latest in A.C. Vector control technology, which fully regenerates the drag power to the drive motors for minimal power usage. After the metal is leveled, it is inspected for surface defects, and an electrostatic oiler applies a precisely controlled protective oil film. At the exit end of the line, the strip is trimmed to final width and tightly wound into a straight walled coil. A major function of the line is to split the large master incoming coils into half width coils and break them down into smaller 5 to 15 metric ton coils. This is performed by a motorized splitter knife attachment on the side trimmer. A special split strand-spreading unit is included to separate the two split strands for accurate rewinding. A strip accumulator is provided after the tension level system to permit the breakdown of the master coil without stopping the strip on the leveler rolls. This accumulator, combined with a belt wrapper for automatic starting of the lead end of the coils on the rewind mandrel, eliminates roll marks on the outgoing product. WISCO is one of the largest steel mills in China, with a complete system of production facilities of mining, coking, sintering, iron making, steel making and steel rolling.
